The debate was held on 6th Wednesday in Riruta Central School at 4:00 pm. The
debate was mainly for form four and form three. It was initially proposed by a
student and it was accepted by the teachers. Mr. Dan the English teacher did the
planning and everything was set. A total of 45 students were expected to go.
Seven contestants, One speaker, one judge, one motion mover and 35 spectators.
In Riruta central, came seven contestants, two judges and one bell ringer. Garden
Mixed Secondary School students left school at 3:00 pm and arrived in Riruta
Central School at 4:00 pm, that was when the debate commenced. The following
contestants came from our school: Kevin Njuguna, Linet Sakwa, Fred Ouma,
Esther Nafula, Phestos Onyango, Ernest Mungai and Hope Diana.
The speaker was Ferdinand Abukuse and the lead judge was Diana Chepng’etich
who was from Garden Mixed Secondary School. The students from Garden were
proposers of the motion ‘Technology has brought more harm than good’. The
courage portrayed by the students from Garden Mixed Secondary School and the
accurate points in which they gave examples and facts, showed they had done
enough research and were prepared. When the debate was done, the judges
declared the proposers, Students from Garden Mixed Secondary School the
winners with 37 points and the opposing team from Riruta Central School lost having 31
points. The students went back home happily after winning. The debate was
awesome and everyone is looking forward to a chance to debate again.
